Jessie Henson’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, and supported by the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art, Vermont Studio Center, Joan Mitchell Foundation, and Bronx Museum of the Arts, among other important funders and programs. Henson’s sculptures and drawings exist in a continuum between drawing and textile, between concrete and sublime (especially appropriate to the chemist’s use of subliming, as a solid turns to vapor and returns to solid again.) Her drawings are formed with the muscle of a commercial sewing machine, revealing both the sewn line and needle punctures through paper as an intentional mark. In this process, layers of drawn thread become built-up enough that the paper, which remains remarkably un-marred by the process, becomes a sculptural extension of the thread.
